VSM: Please tell us about SEPATON's recent announcement. |
JF: SEPATON unveiled its next-generation platform: version 6.0 software which drives its new S2100-ES2 Series 1910/2910 data protection system. The new platform delivers grid scalability of both performance and capacity, the industry’s fastest performance; multi-protocol support; high-reliability; and industry-leading deduplication. The new product is an important enabler of private-cloud computing as well as a platform for the powerful next-generation data protection capabilities needed in today’s massive scale-out storage environments.
|
VSM: How does the new product help customers better manage their data protection complexities? |
JF: Today’s enterprises are faced with explosive data growth, increasing complexity, limited budgets, and risky technology transitions. Many are running out of power and floor space in the data center. SEPATON’s new data protection platform is a simple, cost-effective way for enterprises to address these critical business issues and enable next-generation innovation.
The S2100-ES2 minimizes administration costs and saves power, floor space, and storage costs by enabling enterprises to backup, deduplicate, replicate and store petabytes of data on a single easy-to-manage system. It is also a platform for next generation innovation in data protection technology.
|
VSM: What type of performance does the S2100-ES2 deliver? |
JF: The S2100-ES2 performs up to 1500 MB/sec/node, more than doubling the performance of previous models, making it five to ten times faster than the nearest competitive solution. The platform also features a state-of-the-art 64-bit operating system and SRE server nodes for maximum processing performance as well as improved power efficiency, dynamic power management, resulting in a more efficient 2U form factor. Customers can back up, deduplicate and replicate massive data volumes within backup windows, meet restore SLAs and meet RPO/RTOs and unparalleled flexibility to eliminate system sprawl.
|
VSM: Enterprises are introducing multi-protocols into their environments today. What is SEPATON doing to address this new reality? |
JF: The new SEPATON data protection platform supports Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage (OST) on 10 Gb Ethernet concurrently with Fibre Channel tape emulation, eliminating many technology and platform migration issues for enterprise customers.
