VSM: What does Power Assure do?

BW: Power Assure’s technology transforms existing inefficient data centers into energy proportional data centers that dynamically expand and contract to meet required service levels. Power Assure’s innovations cut across multiple dimensions: from the ability to integrate and correlate data across facilities and IT equipment using agent-less auto discovery; to using that data to create advanced analytics which drive insight into optimizing power, space, utilization; to  dynamically adjusting facilities and IT resources through a our patent pending automation platform. Power Assure not only optimizes within a data center, but also scales to manage the “mega” data centers that are being built today, as well as spanning across multiple data centers that may be deployed around the world.

VSM: What challenge are you solving for customers?

BW: Large enterprises, government agencies and managed service providers are struggling to deal with skyrocketing demand while being constrained by power, space and technology. Fundamentally Power Assure is helping our customers become much more efficient, so that they can expand services without having to add more capacity or build a new data center. We help them increase asset utilization, and in general get more “production” from the equipment they have already bought. Most data centers have historically been built with an eye towards top performance and availability, with little attention paid to how efficiently the data center delivers on those promises. Power Assure addresses today’s costly operating model where all assets – servers, lighting, and cooling – are turned all the way on all the time. Power Assure delivers intelligent, dynamic power management solutions that dynamically contract and expand resources as compute demand fluctuates.

VSM: How does Power Assure fit into a cloud strategy?

BW: Power Assure helps organizations better pursue their cloud strategy by giving our customers visibility into hidden power consumption as well as the utilization of their virtualization and cloud efforts. Load balancing within one site and across many sites can decrease costs and help increase uptime in the event of a failure or disaster. Power Assure’s Dynamic Power Management product works seamlessly within both load-balanced and virtualized environments, handling any combination of physical and virtual machines to maximize loads across available sites while minimizing energy costs.
