Q&A with Henning Volkmer of Cortado
VSM: Your company recently announced the consolidation of its ThinPrint and Cortado products under the Cortado name. What was the driving force behind this rebrand?
HV: The industry has entered the post-PC era - the PC has become just one of the many devices business users utilize for desktop purposes. Today’s business users are no longer chained to their desks and instead rely on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, to support their ever-increasing, on-the-go needs.
The trend is putting pressure on the enterprise facing increasing challenges in the consumerization of IT, as employees expect to use their own devices in the workplace, and IT departments are working to keep pace to provide a balance of productivity and security.
These factors create the need for cloud desktop services – the desktop optimized to access both the public and private cloud from anywhere, any time, on any device. Cortado has recognized this need and the increasing importance the cloud will continue to play in today’s business environments. This in turn has led the company to consolidate its existing ThinPrint and Cortado products under a singular company name – Cortado.
Under the Cortado name, we are now able to better reflect our unique position in the market as the only company to deliver the business class of cloud desktop services. We offer complete strategic solutions for the enterprise user looking to keep pace with the evolution of the industry, increase productivity, save time and reduce costs.
VSM: What is Cortado’s cloud desktop services?
HV: For the enterprise, end-user and IT professional who needs the functionality of a traditional desktop on any device, employee or corporate owned in any location, online or offline.
Cortado offers print management, print optimization, print tracking and security for virtual desktops. For tablets, smartphones and web connected devices, Cortado securely delivers desktop experiences optimized for the look and feel of each device, catering to its ergonomics of the device and making the best use of its native capabilities. Users can access centrally stored files and databases and access intuitive file handling options including integration into the existing IT infrastructure, ability to edit, preview, export and manage files, print and fax.
VSM: How are Cortado’s cloud desktop services different from their competition?
HV: There is no “one” competitor to Cortado. There are several companies out there that each can provide a piece of the cloud desktop service experience only. In addition, they do not optimize the desktop experience for the entire range of today’s new devices.
Cortado is the only company that delivers the business class of cloud desktop services with both a user centric and an IT centric approach. By leveraging the unique capabilities of each user’s device, it provides a link to corporate IT functions and centralized IT resources. All the while, with a strong focus on security and device management, delivering an optimized secure experience for each business process appropriate to the increasingly mobile workplace.
