The 7th annual World Cup of Segway Polo, founded by Steve Wozniak of Apple Computers will soon be upon us. In fields around the world avid Segway and polo enthusiasts are taping up their mallets in preparation for the big game, starting on Wednesday, June 6th in Stockholm, Sweden. 14 Teams from Austria to Lebanon will compete for bragging rights in the biggest tournament of its kind in the world.
Here in the US, Segway of Oakland and members of Bay Area Seg are ready and raring to go. The Originals, captained by Steven Steinberg of Segway of Oakland, have to be considered the early favorites.
“The Woz Cup is coming back to the Bay Area where it belongs,” said Steven Steinberg when asked if he was confident going into the tournament this year. “I’ve played in every Woz Cup so far, this being my seventh. I think that my experience is a definite advantage. I’m ready to lead my team to the Promised Land.”
Also playing for The Originals are Lisa Steinberg, George Clark, Ron Schnell, Don the Dragon, and Anthony Steinberg. This team of rugged veterans leaves the US for Stockholm soon, but not before spending countless hours on the polo fields, fine-tuning their games.
