Eastern University's Dr. Mary Ann Peters Elected President of PA Higher Education Nursing Schools Association
Dr. Mary Ann Peters, Chairperson and Professor of Nursing at Eastern University is elected Presidents of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Nursing Schools Association.

Eastern University, a Philadelphia Christian University, is pleased to announce that Mary Anne Peters, Ph.D., RN, CNE, Chairperson and Professor of Nursing at Eastern University, is the new President of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Nursing Schools Association (PHENSA). Dr. Mary Anne Peters was elected to this position and began her term of service on July 1, 2012.
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Nursing Schools Association is a state-wide organization with a mission to exercise responsible leadership in planning and implementing programs of action for the growth, development, and advancement of baccalaureate and higher degree nursing programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Dr. Peters says, "I am excited to have this opportunity to work with Deans and Directors of higher education nursing programs throughout Pennsylvania to plan strategically for the future of nursing education."
Dr. Peters earned her Ph.D. at Widener University, the MSN from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BSN from the Pennsylvania State University. She has served as an assistant professor, associate professor, and nursing curriculum and outcomes coordinator at Eastern University from 1992-2003. Dr. Peters was awarded the 1999 Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Peters has done research in many areas including: acute myocardial infarction in urban African-Americans, the knowledge and skill of adjunct faculty teaching baccalaureate nursing students, and adult student satisfaction in traditional part-time study versus accelerated modularized study in an RN to BSN program.
Dr. Peters was a 2008-2009 Leadership in Academic Nursing Program Fellow and served as a site visitor for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Accreditation. She is a member of numerous professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International, American Nurses’ Association, National League for Nurses, and the Society of Pediatric Nurses.
