Hubbell Lighting Division Joins TALQ Consortium
Hubbell Building Automation First North American Company to Attain Regular Member Status
Hubbell Building Automation, a division of Hubbell Lighting, and a market leader in innovative lighting controls technology, has been named the first North American regular member of the TALQ Consortium.
TALQ is a global consortium initiated by companies from the international lighting community whose aim is to create a globally accepted standard for a management software interface for outdoor lighting networks. The founding companies of the consortium are Harvard Engineering, Kingsun, Philips, Schreder, Streetlight.Vision, and Thorn/Zumtobel.
At the present time the outdoor lighting market is defined by a diversity of proprietary systems and interfaces. Such a lack of standards makes it difficult to integrate, operate, and maintain management systems and is prohibiting the growth of outdoor lighting networks. By bringing together global lighting industry leaders, the TALQ Consortium, through the development and strict management of promotional, certification, and compliance programs, is committed to delivering and governing a well-defined software protocol specification for the interface between central management systems and outdoor lighting networks.
“Outdoor lighting control is the next frontier for energy efficiency in lighting systems. The mission of the TALQ Consortium is aligned with Hubbell Lighting’s and HBA’s strategy to provide advanced energy efficient outdoor lighting systems for the North American market”, said Thomas Braz, Vice President and General Manager, Hubbell Building Automation. “We are proud to be the first North American regular member of TALQ and look forward to working closely with the Consortium to insure the requirements of the North American market are represented. The development of a standard such as this will result in maximum energy savings for all property owners with outdoor lighting applications”, Braz emphasized.
“I’m delighted to welcome Hubbell Building Automation as our first additional member less than two months after the formation of the TALQ Consortium”, said Gerard Lokhoff, the consortium’s Secretary General. “This is a clear indication that the objective of the consortium is recognized around the world as an important catalyst enabling the growth of the outdoor lighting networks market.”
Hubbell Lighting’s brands have long been leaders in lighting technology. In 1888 company founder Harvey Hubbell invented what could arguably be called the world's first lighting control device, the pull chain switch. Nearly 125 years later, Hubbell Building Automation continues this tradition of innovation with the development of networked lighting controls.
Founded June 2012, the TALQ Consortium is currently working to prepare a draft specification by the end of 2012.
