According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, America is facing a national crisis that is anticipated to result in a shortage of as many as 150,000 primary care physicians and specialists in the US!

In addition, educating our young people in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects is crucial to our ability to maintain our standing as the economic and technological leader in the global marketplace. Sadly, we are failing to educate our students in these critical areas. According to a 2010 Research!America National Poll, nearly everyone in the US can provide the name of a movie star or professional athlete, but few can name a single living scientist!

The National Academy of Physicians and Medical Scientists seeks to address this urgent need by providing high-achieving young people with the resources they need to succeed in achieving their dream of becoming a doctor or medical scientist. One way the National Academy of Physicians and Medical Scientists is doing this is by sponsoring the inaugural Congress of Future Medical Leaders to be held in Washington, DC in February of 2014. The Congress is designed for the most highly motivated high school students, those who possess academic promise and who are interested in becoming medical doctors or who are dedicated to becoming the next generation of leaders in medical science in one of the STEM areas.

The 2014 Congress of Future Medical Leaders will give America’s top young minds a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear from leaders preeminent in their field. These leaders will share their knowledge within an atmosphere of camaraderie and intellectual stimulation. Speakers include Nobel Prize winners and Ivy League medical school deans as well as leaders in medical research and leaders from private industry.

The 2014 Congress of Future Medical Leaders will be held at the DC Armory in Washington, DC in February of 2014. There is space for 7,000 students and 2,000 of those spaces have been reserved for students who are nominated and selected by their teachers to receive an academic scholarship.

“Parents are also encouraged to attend and observe their child’s transformation over the course of the three day conference,” says Executive Director Richard Rossi. “We look forward to providing parents with special coaching and opportunities for supporting their child in reaching their full potential and realizing their dream of becoming a doctor or medical scientist.”

The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists is a unique organization established to provide young people, their parents, and their teachers with extensive information and guidance on how to become a doctor or medical scientist.
