New
Desktone-based Service to Launch in Q1, 2009.
October 14, 2008 - Chelmsford, MA - Desktone, Inc., provider of the first solution that
enables virtual desktops as an outsourced subscription service, today announced
that it has signed SoftBank Telecom as the first service provider in Japan and
Asia Pacific to offer desktops as a service (DaaS) using the Desktone Virtual-D
Platform.
"Japan
and Asia Pacific represent an enormous opportunity, and we're thrilled to mark
our foray into these markets with the leading provider of voice and data
networking solutions," said Mr. Harry Ruda,
CEO of Desktone. "With this
Desktone-based offering, SoftBank Telecom can provide an innovative, high-value
service that speeds customers' time to adopt virtual desktop infrastructure
(VDI), while enabling them to quickly reap VDI's cost savings and flexibility
benefits."
"Many of our customers want to adopt
VDI but don't have the resources to build and manage it internally. Through extensive research, we determined
that Desktone is the only provider that can power VDI as an outsourced service,
and enable us to bring this very strategic initiative to market," said Mr. Ken
Miayuchi, COO of SoftBank Telecom, which realized US$3.7 billion revenue this
year. "By combining our powerful network
with Desktone's unique platform, we can provide customers an effective, simple
way to implement virtual desktops, without having to incur the upfront CAPEX,
without worrying about being locked into particular vendor products,
and-equally critical-while significantly lowering their power consumption and
physical space requirements."
Responding to strong customer demand
for easy, cost-effective VDI, SoftBank Telecom plans to make its DaaS offering
generally available in Q1, 2009.
SoftBank Telecom anticipates that its first customer will be SoftBank
Mobile, who will implement this in their retail wireless stores to reduce desktop
TCO and helpdesk inquiries.
Desktone-based DaaS Solution
SoftBank
Telecom is building its desktops as a service solution on the only end-to-end
virtual desktop platform designed specifically for hosted, subscription-based
DaaS.
The Virtual-D Platform integrates
all enabling technologies into a single, automated self-service platform, helping
enterprises quickly realize the full benefits of centralized virtual desktops
without having to build and deploy the infrastructure internally. It dramatically reduces enterprise desktop
TCO and transforms virtual desktop infrastructure costs from CAPEX to
OPEX. And because the Virtual-D Platform
is uniquely designed along two tiers (enterprise and service provider), it lets
enterprise customers maintain ownership and control over their Windows OS
images, applications and all relating licensing, while outsourcing the physical
data center infrastructure powering their virtual desktops to SoftBank
Telecom.
