$1B Insurance Provider Uses PERFMAN to Monitor and Manage VMware Environment, Physical Environment.

BETHLEHEM, Penn., Oct. 28, 2008 - PERFMAN, a leading enterprise systems management company, announced today that Grange Insurance, a $1 billion insurance provider, has deployed PERFMAN's highly regarded cross-platform performance management and capacity planning software to help manage Grange's VMware virtual server environment.  Grange's use of PERFMAN's Virtualization Planning Tool has already created significant cost-saving opportunities for the company, and PERFMAN's VMware Sprawl Reporting capability will enable Grange to track the proliferation of virtual machines in its data center.  More information about PERFMAN is available at www.perfman.com.

Grange evaluated several other vendors' offerings before selecting PERFMAN.  Several factors contributed to Grange's decision.  First, PERFMAN provides Grange with a single tool that manages both physical servers and VMware environments.  The entire virtualization lifecycle is supported, from discovery and candidate selection through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing management.

"It is imperative to plan virtual server infrastructure management in conjunction with more broad-based enterprise serviceability needs, which rely on both physical and virtual assets," said Cameron Haight, vice president, research, Gartner.

Grange was also attracted to powerful virtualization management features offered exclusively by PERFMAN.  For example, PERFMAN is the only available product that provides an aggregate view of multiple VMware Virtual Centers, delivering a "single pane of glass" view of an organization's entire virtual infrastructure. In addition, PERFMAN's ability to manage operating systems and applications inside VMware guests provides root cause analysis not offered by any other tool.  PERFMAN is also unique in its ability to collect years of data for trend analysis, enabling the identification of potential problems weeks or even months before they arise.

In addition, Grange determined that major investments of time, effort, and money would be required to deploy many of the other vendors' virtualization management tools.  Grange was able to deploy and begin using the PERFMAN solution in only a few hours.

"The PERFMAN Virtualization Planning Tool revealed that half of the SQL servers we monitored were utilized at less than 2% of their capacity," said Jerry Valentine, project manager, capacity planning and disaster recovery, Grange Insurance.  "Information like this could easily save a company like Grange hundreds of thousands of dollars."

PERFMAN saves Grange even more money by eliminating routine purchases of new servers in response to user complaints about application performance:  PERFMAN isolates the root cause of performance bottlenecks, enabling users to address the actual problem and not merely attack the symptom by simply adding new hardware.

"PERFMAN offers an ideal combination of ease-of-use, industry-leading features, and rapid ROI," said Valentine.  "Every enterprise seeking to maximize the value of its virtualization investment, especially those without departments full of performance- and capacity-planning experts, should put PERFMAN on its short list."
