Maker Expects $250,000 In Annual Savings Leveraging Virtualization
Technologies
Shelton, CT --
August 12, 2008 - VIRTERA, a leading
virtualization professional services and consulting firm specializing in
maximizing virtualization ROI,today
announced that CooperVision has selected its Server and Desktop Virtualization Solutions
to reduce costs within their global data center and increase operational
efficiencies.
Steve Baxter, Director of Regional
IT for America's
CooperVision explains his company's growing challenges and decision to
virtualize the data center, "Our growth, both externally as well as internally was
massive. The sheer number of new servers and their associated applications
proved especially challenging as we attempted to reconcile our business
expansion within the physical limits of our
current infrastructure. We knew virtualization was a means through which
we could effectively and intelligently approach our integration
challenges."
Leveraging its vendor-agnostic
Virtual Operations Framework (VOF) methodology, the VIRTERA team was called
upon to perform a 30-day assessment of CooperVision's global server farm. As a result of this
process, CooperVision was presented with a comprehensive report showing a mere
seven percent utilization rate across all servers, along with a recommendation to virtualize select servers.
This strategic initiative would enable the global corporation to achieve a 14:1
server ratio - improving application availability and reducing overall
maintenance.
"At this point we have a
little over 100 servers virtualized with an additional 100 in queue for future
migration. We also have several fairly mature clusters that are running both
physicaland virtual servers, as well as
approximately 250 virtual desktops," says Baxter.
VIRTERA is also assisting
CooperVision to retain greater visibility and control over server resource
management, an area where according to Baxter, VIRTERA really excelled,
"Historically, if we needed to add RAM to a
server, it was an elongated seven-step process. Now with the help of
VIRTERA, we're able to accomplish this process in just 15 minutes.
System resources are ‘virtually'
available and can quickly be reallocated in real time or with a simple reboot
process."
"We are very pleased that our
unique consultative approach and comprehensive suite of virtualization
professional services is enabling companies like CooperVision to realize the technical benefits of
virtualization, while enabling them to achieve a clear and measurable return on
their IT investments," said Howard Pavony, CEO of VIRTERA. "We
created VIRTERA to bring virtualization solutions to valued customers like
CooperVision, and look forward to continuing our mission to maximize
virtualization ROI for mid-enterprise organizations nationwide."
