VirtualLogix Drives Industry Adoption with Support of Newest Multicore Association Specification By VSM News Staff published: Friday, September 26 2008
Among First in Industry to Adopt MCAPI to Implement Distributed Services in Multicore Platforms
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - September 26, 2008 - VirtualLogix, Inc. today announced VLX real-time virtualization software support for the Multicore Association's recently approved specification for Multicore Communications API (MCAPI).
MCAPI
has been defined to flexibly support hundreds of processor cores and
systems with tight memory constraints, fast task execution times,
reliable on-chip interconnect and high system throughput requirements.
By supporting the MCAPI specification within VLX, customers are able to
apply this same flexibility and scalability to virtualized environments
allowing them to easily migrate applications from a physical multicore
system to one implemented with VirtualLogix VLX virtualization software
via this industry accepted API.
"As
one of the first organizations to support MCAPI, VirtualLogix is
setting a powerful precedent for the industry-wide adoption of
standards that enable applications to provide basic, simple and
efficient multicore communication functionality between closely
distributed processors in embedded systems," said Sven Brehmer,
chairman of the Multicore Association MCAPI working group and president
and CEO for PolyCore Software.
"MCAPI
gives VirtualLogix customers more options," said Peter Richards,
president and CEO for VirtualLogix. "By complementing our existing high
performance, flexible communications solution with MCAPI, VirtualLogix
is demonstrating its continuing leadership and commitment to providing enhanced interoperability with other multicore machines."
VirtualLogix
VLX real-time virtualization software helps users reduce bill of
material costs by consolidating hardware, improving security and
reducing overall power consumption. VirtualLogix offers extensive
support for multicore technology, including its VLX for Network
Infrastructure, which supports Intel® Core
MicroArchitecture and Texas Instruments Multi-core Digital Signal
Processors. VLX Developer, VirtualLogix's Eclipse-based development
tool set, assists developers to optimize the software architecture of
their virtualized, multicore platforms.
About The Multicore Association
The
Multicore Association provides a neutral forum for vendors who are
interested in, working with, and/or proliferating multicore-related
products, including processors, infrastructure, devices, software, and
applications. The consortium has made available its Multicore
Communications API (MCAPI) specification through its website.
Currently, the organization is set up with three working groups:
Hypervisors, Multicore Resource Management, and Multicore Programming
Practices (MPP). Members include CAPS entreprise, Codeplay,
CriticalBlue, Enea, eSOL, Freescale Semiconductor, Intel, Mentor
Graphics, MIPS Technologies, Multicore-Association, National
Instruments, NEC Electronics America, Nokia Siemens Networks,
Plurality, PolyCore Software, QNX, Texas Instruments, Tilera, Trango
Virtual Processors, VirtualLogix, and Wind River. Further information
is available at www.multicore-association.org.
