As the VMworld Turns (D-Day + 2 and 3) By Aaron Sweemer published: Monday, September 22 2008
Thursday
was the final day of VMworld. I remember
feeling like it we had only just arrived in Vegas, 3 full days prior to the
event. Never-the-less, the event was
already coming to a close. The breakout
sessions and labs continued until about 4PM according to the schedule. But for me, the last breakout session for
which I was a Session Owner was at 9AM.
And because half of my customers caught early flights home, my VMworld
responsibilities ended sometime around noon.
I had
yet another lunch meeting with a customer and a fellow Cincinnati SE. We ate at Postrio, a very cool cafe by Wolfgang
Puck at The Venetian. If you get a
chance to go, try the chicken sandwich on pretzel bread ... wow! Anyway, the bulk of our conversation over
lunch revolved around everyone's impression of the event. It was good to hear all the positive things
my customer had to say about the event and about VMware in general. And the second half of the day I got to enjoy
a round of golf with a few customers that were still in town. I was technically still working, but I was
playing golf, so you heard no complaints from me!
When I
returned to the hotel room after a final customer dinner, I closed the laptop
and turned off the cell phone. The wife
and I had a few drinks and tried to relax and prepare for the next day, Friday,
a day to ourselves on the Las Vegas Strip.
September 9th was our one year anniversary, so we decided to push our
celebration off until this week. And my
in-laws surprised us with tickets to The
Blue Man Group,
which was ironically located at the Venetian, immediately adjacent to the main
VMworld entrance.
If you
haven't seen The Blue Man Group, I'd highly recommend it. I was thoroughly impressed! I had heard it was a good show from many
different sources, so my expectations were high. And my expectations were certainly
exceeded! It's hard to say exactly what
the show is about, because there wasn't a plot to be found. Each "scene" was completely
different from the last. The only common
thread I could find was that each scene was a feast for the senses. Seriously, if you get a chance to go to
Vegas, do yourself a favor and see their show.
After the event, the guys come out and mingle with the crowd. And I got one of them to put a blue hand
print on my shaved noggin. Check it out
...

Well,
that's pretty much it for my VMworld experience. Now that I'm back in Cincinnati, I'll work on
a VMworld wrap up that will detail more of the all the cool announcements and
my interpretation of them. I hope to
have that done in the next day or so.
See ya
next year!
